This Instagram feature seems to be inspired by Reddit's downvote button.

Criticism of Instagram users

Many internet users have reacted to the dislike feature of Instagram's comments. Sharing screenshots of the comments section showing the new down arrow button, users have criticized the button. "It looks like they want to see us argue and hate each other," one user wrote. Many Instagram users who criticized the feature said that the new feature could cause mental health problems for young people.

A Meta spokesperson said the new feature will allow users to let them know if they don't like a particular comment. The new button could help content creators reduce the amount of negative comments on their posts.

"Creators may be able to reduce the visibility of a comment if they don't like it and have a positive environment for conversations with followers," one Instagram user said. In a statement to the tech site The Verge, Instagram spokesperson Christine Pai said the dislike button is being tested "with a limited number of users." However, Meta did not confirm how long the test will last.
