Solar Eclipse 2025 Timing & Dates : The first solar eclipse of 2025 will be visible on March 29. This partial solar eclipse is set to be the first of two solar eclipses to occur in 2025. However, experts say that like the upcoming total lunar eclipse, the partial solar eclipse (also known as a blood moon) will only be visible in certain parts of the world. This cosmic spectacle will be visible from Asia, Africa, Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, North America, and South America.
First Solar Eclipse 2025: Where to see it
North Americans will get a good view of the first solar eclipse of the year as it will occur right around sunrise. Unfortunately, the eclipse will not be visible from any part of India.
Why is it called a partial solar eclipse?
A solar eclipse occurs when the moon comes between the sun and the earth. When the moon completely covers the sun, it is called a total solar eclipse. However, in this case, the moon will only cover a part of the sun, hence the name “partial solar eclipse”. Interestingly, a lunar eclipse occurs about two weeks after a solar eclipse, or vice versa.
Solar Eclipse 2025 Date and Time: When will this partial solar eclipse happen?
According to Indian Standard Time (IST), the first solar eclipse of 2025 will begin at 2:20:43 PM on March 29. The maximum eclipse will occur at 4:17:27 PM. The eclipse will end at 4:13:45 PM, meaning this partial solar eclipse will last for a total of four hours.
Although it is safe to view a lunar eclipse with the naked eye, according to scientists, it is not advisable to look directly at a solar eclipse with the naked eye. This can affect the retina and cause eye damage. Proper safety glasses should be used while viewing a solar eclipse.
